The biggest whisky event, Whisky Live, was held for the first time ever in Jakarta, early in November.
The event took place on 3-4 November 2018 at Kempinski Jakarta. Organized by Indonesia Whisky Research Society, the exhibition collected a total of 17 brands and 120 whiskeys from all over the world. Thousands of guests experience whisky tasting, and masterclasses from global whisky experts to learn about “the water of life” better. Some also experienced whisky pairing and dinner with food from the winners of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, such as UNION and Basque.
On the center stage, Marcell Siahaan was ready to entertain the whole room, while the unlimited number of whisky was being poured over our glasses. Surrounding the stage were the artworks from the collaboration with Indonesian Luxury. Dozens of installations made from whisky bottles were curated by Vivi Yip Artroom as well as paintings curated by ISA Art Advisory, creating an integrative space for whisky lovers. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to ‘The Learning Farm’, a foundation that teaches underprivileged youth organic farming.
The event organizer also promoted “Drink Positively” movement, which emphasizes the quality of taste and togetherness in enjoying whisky and spirit. Andrew Soetiono, CEO of Whisky Live Jakarta and Indonesia Whisky Research Society, said “We want to educate the market that whisky itself is a form of art, that should be savour responsibly”.
Whisky masters from each brand will be happy to share their knowledge about the ways of enjoying different kind of whisky, from single malts to Japanese herb spirits. In the VIP room, there was a more intimate crash course on whisky—as well as limited whisky collection to try.
