The 90th Academy Awards have given birth to more stars of silver screen—while some others fade.
We list down our winners and losers during the gala (04/03), including the surprising winners and losers. We also present those who caught our attention on the red carpet, both in good and dire way. Here are the winners of the most awaited evening in Hollywood:
THE ANTICIPATED: Shape of Water
Although the film failed to bring home any trophy for their nominated actors, Guillermo del Toro shines as Best Director while the film carry the Best Picture, Best Original Score (beating Hans Zimmer of Dunkirk), and Best Production Design.
THE SURPRISE: Bladerunner 2049
The mixed-reviewed film did not perform in cinemas as expected by the filmmakers, but the adapted film proved themselves by winning Best Visual Effect and the prestigious Best Cinematography—beating major contenders like Shape of Water and Dunkirk.
FROM THE RED CARPET: Rita Moreno
The actress wore the same dress she had in 1962 Academy Awards, when she received an award for West Side Story.
Meanwhile, some predicted stars failed to fulfill the great expectation and had to remain as losers for one night:
THE SNUB: Ladybird
Despite the abundant nominations, the film flopped to carry home any trophy. Some entertainment press mentioned earlier that the film was overrated—what do you think?
THE SURPRISE: Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan is a cult-director, we must admit. Despite all the cutting-edge cinematography and music, as well as positive reviews from mass media, Dunkirk have to go home with no major title in hand.
FROM THE RED CARPET: Salma Hayek
Why does the actress look like she’s trying hard to disguise herself in her teenage daughter’s prom night?
