It looks like a new era for Celine has begun. As per Paris Fashion Week 2019, they debuted a whole new look that shocked everyone.
Surprise after surprise was found during Paris Fashion Week. However, there has been a lot of buzz around a particular well-known brand for its 180-degree change. Known for its effortlessly elegant, feminine, and modern looks, guests were surprised by what they saw as edgy rock n’ roll of Hedi Slimane’s debut Spring 2019 collection for Celine.
It’s actually not a coincidence, as Hedi used to be the creative director for Saint Laurent, a fashion house known for its vintage dark looks. Titled Paris La Nuit (the night of Paris), the collection showed mini glam dresses, shoulder-padded blazers, as well as black metallic jumpsuits along with black ankle boots. Some of the models were also spotted wearing veiled cocktail hats that adds a little bit of femme fatale vibe to the overall look.
The menswear also had the similar concept with pieces like metallic biker jackets, slim-fit suits, and patterned coats along with dark skinny trousers. Styled in a Mick Jagger-ish style, they completed their looks with mysterious black glasses.
With the similarities to Saint Laurent, Celine fans were extremely puzzled and expressed their disappointment on social media. One of them even said the collection was a Saint Laurent 2.0. Nevertheless, some retailers gave a contrasted opinion on this issue. For instance, Andrew Keith, the president of Lance Crawford, said that Hedi has a focused creative vision and that his direction for Celine is consistent which will make his loyal fans and customers happy to see him back.
People might like the new Celine, or they might not. But the only thing that will prove whether it’ll be a hit or not is the sales number.
