Contouring is a highly familiar technique on cosmetics. As it promises, the contouring technique is mostly used to give tonal or shape contrast to the face, giving your face the perfect dimension that craves nothing but perfect camera shots. The magical touch is now not only applicable to your face, but your hair as well.

Hair contour is a hair-coloring technique done by placing well-mixed color in contrast to facial tone. This method is also known as Foilyage, or a Balayage technique with foil.

Welcoming 2017 color trend greenery, beauty giant L'Oréal introduces the hair contour method through releasing their Spring/Summer 2017 hair color trend. As we may expect, pastel colors are still in this year. Whether it is rose, lavender, baby blue, or green, any pastel is a safe, defining choice to welcome summer. L'Oréal offered three pastel creations to join the pastel power: Rose Gold, Nude Beige, to Matte/Khaki. We highly recommend the Matte/Khaki shades that reflect cool greenish shade - a beautiful anomaly under the warm sunshine.

Treating hair color as cosmetics, the hair contour shade and shape is especially done to match facial tone and shape. Here's some tip:

For oval or long shape, darker shade on the hair roots and ends, while applying lighter highlights around the face to give fresher, fuller look to the face. For squared or round face, apply multi-tonal highlights all around the face to soften jawlines.

On the same occasion, five muses (L-R): Gaby Hartanto, Anast Lie, Ayu Gani, Dian Puspita, and Tahlia Raji celebrate the color and technique trend with styling from Andy Lie, Arie Hidayat, Irwan Rovani, Lie Kuang, and Anto Konizi. Got some color inspiration already for well-contoured hair this summer?
