The Duke of Sussex happily announced the birth of his first son with wife Meghan Markle on Wednesday, 6 May 2019. This is what we know so far from Sussex Royal Baby no. 1.

Who is the name of the baby?

A few days after labor, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor as the name of their firstborn. People have been commented on the unusualness of his name for a royal. “Archie” stayed on the bottom part of odds while “Harrison” did not make it into the list at all.

What is the meaning behind his name?

The Majesty royal magazine declared that the name brings a sense of balance between the UK and the US; “Archie” as the shortened version of “Archibald” is a popular first name in the Britain while “Harrison” is a more familiar name for the Americans. “Archibald” means “precious, bold” and funnily enough, “Harrison” means “the son of Henry/Harry”.

Why doesn’t baby Sussex have title in his name?

Unlike his cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Archie does not carry royal title in his name. Instead, he is named using Prince Philip’s surname, Mountbatten. Following the tradition, he is named with combined surname from both the Queen and her consort, hence Mountbatten-Windsor. If there is a title, he is most likely to be named Lord or Master.

Is there any way baby Sussex will carry a royal title?

It is unlikely in normal tradition. The BBC mentioned that The Queen has to intervene to give Sussex baby a royal title. However, sources like Time also mentioned that the possibility will surge at the time Prince Charles replaces her mother as the King. This is because every descendant of the King’s son will have a royal title in their name.

Why did the Duchess of Sussex postponed the photo session with the newborn a few days after the birth?

Unlike Princess Diana and sister-in-law Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan did not appeared in public a few hours after labor and chose to recover privately. Instead, the Sussex royals announced the name and the first pictures of their sons a few days later—without the traditional big family picture. This is the personal choice of the couple, who fancy more privacy than the other family members.

Who appeared in the pictures and who joined the celebration?

Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and her consort Prince Philip appeared in the first pictures along with the Duke and The Duchess of Sussex at the Windsor Castle. The photoshoot was even made special with the appearance of Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland. Leaders, Meghan’s celebrity friends, and other high-profile figures congratulate the couple following the announcement from Prince Harry and The Buckingham Palace, including Michelle Obama and the Prime Minister of UK.
