The Kate Spade bags sound like the bag every girl look for in the 90s. The New York-based designer has brought her colorful DNA to her collections, including her five most iconic bags, to which they stay forever in our memories.

All the young girls (or the young at heart) must have worn or desired at least one of the ex-journalist’s bags. We can say that she had been ahead of her time when she experimented with certain material and shapes. This list starts, of course, with the 90s it-bag the Sam Handbag.

SAM HANDBAG

Shaped almost all-too-naturally rectangle shape, the classic handbag was first released in black colored nylon in 1993, where nylon was still an unfamiliar handbag material. The material turned to be a hit for few years back for its versatile, vegan nature—20 years after Spade’s creation.

ENVELOPE CLUTCHES

The envelope-shaped clutches in fancy colors we find these days are totally Kate Spade’s influence. She used to simply put her gold-plated logo on the bag to make it appear flawless. One of her celebrity muses who’s seen wearing Spade’s works in some occasions is no other than Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

THE MOST SPADE-ISH PARTNERSHIP EVER

Spade is known for her iconic shapes, prints—from animals, flowers, to polka dots—and fancy colored glitters. Her partnership with Minnie Mouse is like her greatest hits of these signatures. It has the definitive Sam gene, paired with bold-colored polka dots and Minnie Mouse’s silhouette.

STRAW BAGS

Straw and raffia bags are typically popular summer handbags these days. One of the early birds is, once again, Kate Spade. She released her first straw/raffia hand bags in early 2000s and continued to renew the collection up to 2016.

ECCENTRIC CROSSBODY

Who doesn’t recognize Kate Spade’s sweets-shaped crossbody? Or her box-of-chocolate clutch? In her late collections, she released cute cross-body bags in “unusual” shapes, including a cute mouse, an audiotape, to a radio. One of her most famous creations for this line is the milk carton bag and Charm magazine clutch.
