Gucci: The Artist is Present

Right now, we are living in the era where everything is easily copy-pasted. Gucci has taken that particular idea seriously and held an exhibition called The Artist is Present.

Introducing the new exhibition curated by Maurizio Cattelan, The Artist is Present explores the age of copy-paste, where everything is reproduced and nothing really keeps the aura of originality. For that, the show itself found a perfect place to hold the exhibition, Shanghai, which is arguably the capital of counterfeit luxuries.

The Artist is Present highlights the practice of appropriation in the many forms of contemporary culture. Titled after Marina Abramovic’s 2010 major retrospective work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the exhibition aims to explore how originality can be reached through the act of repetition and how “the original” can be preserved through copies.

The event will feature a selection from more than 30 artists from China and across the globe that will remark the question of originality, intention, and expression. In the past, Gucci has also revealed a series of art walls in Milan, New York, London, and Hong Kong to help promoting the exhibition.

A lot of the Chinese hot stars such as Wu Lei, Tina Leung, Liu Wen, and many others also attended and fire up the show wearing Gucci outfits.

The prestige exhibition is currently underway and will be on view until December 16.
