Tears broke during Chanel Fall/Winter 2019 show on Paris Fashion Week as the French label remembered the late creative designer, Karl Lagerfeld.

The 85-year old left us all on February 19, 2019, leaving the world of fashion devastated. Yesterday, on the last day of Paris Fashion Week, Chanel paid homage for their most influential figure after Coco Chanel during the runway.

Opening the show is the voice of the German maestro; speaking of the time he spent with Chanel since 1983, where he rejuvenated the house. On every seat there was an illustrated picture of Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel together, written as follows: “the beat goes on...” Nobody dared to blurt a single word during the moment of silence in the beginning of the show.

Led by Karl’s long-time right hand Virginie Viard, the show presented the latest creation of both Karl’s and Virginie’s dominated in pure black and white, houndstooth print, tweeds, oversized stingy brims, and floral touch. On the background is snowy, Alpine-esque panorama that paid homage to Karl’s hometown in Germany. The presence of the late Creative Director got stronger during the finale, where nobody came out from the backstage to greet the audience. The whole line-up of models shed tears as they walked the runway for one more time without the presence of the designer.

As expected, many of Karl’s muses such as Naomi Campbell, Kristen Stewart, Monica Bellucci, to fashion prodigy Anna Wintour attended the show.  On the runway, his model/muses Cara Delevingne and Kaia Gerber proudly showcased his last creation. Chanel’s brand ambassador Penelope Cruz also joined the star-studded parade.

Chanel acted as a finale in celebrating the life and work of Karl Lagerfeld. Many labels have paid tribute for the fashion icon during the latest fashion weeks including Chloe and Fendi, in which Karl’s iron fist left an indelible mark.
