It’s the month of art! Throughout April and May 2018, some big cities like Jakarta and Yogyakarta will be hosting some of the most anticipated art exhibitions to witness.
Heads up, art enthusiasts! Some of us may miss the international Art Basel Hong Kong not long ago, and while there’s still a long way to go for Art Stage Jakarta, we have some interesting art exhibitions we can’t simply miss this April-May. These include commemoration to literature prince Pramoedya Ananta Toer and Japanese enfant terrible Yayoi Kusama.
TETAP TERANG: ALWAYS BRIGHT
Launching on April 12, Indonesian Luxury and Ambiente worked with ISA ART ADVISORY to create this crossover exhibition. Headlined with British-Balinese artist Sinta Tantra, French-Indonesian Ines Katamso, and Goldsmiths College alumnus Natasha Lubis, the exhibitions will present so many colors – mostly when one of their hosts is Didiet Maulana.
“NAMAKU PRAM” – CATATAN DAN ARSIP
Dia.Lo.Gue once again returned with their major exhibition. Launched on April 17, Titimangsa Foundation, Bakti Budaya Djarum, and Dia.Lo.Gue will present manuscripts, notes, and news scrapbooks of the late writer. Lasting for a month in Galeri Indonesia Kaya, prominent figures like Slamet Rahardjo, Najwa Shihab, and Pram’s daughter Astuti Ananta Toer will join the parade.
YAYOI KUSAMA: LIFE IS THE HEART OF A RAINBOW
There is still one month to go before Yayoi exclusively exhibited her works for 4 months straight in MACAN Museum, but the ticket sales are dropping not long ago. Known for her fixated patterns, bright colors, and absurd works, Yayoi has inspired one of MACAN in-house installment: room of infinity. Some of her most popular works like The Obliteration Room are reportedly being presented in the show.
